A sink gauge represents the stainless steel material; the smaller the gauge number, the thicker the stainless steel will be.
16 Guage is equal to the thickness of around 1.5 mm; it’s a luxury option for the kitchen sinks.
18 Gauge is sligtly thiner than the 16 gauge sink, it’s thickness is around 1.2 mm. Which is perfect for the size and durability needed in the average household kitchen.
If you need a quality sink with affordble price, then 18 gauge sink is good enough.
22 Gauge refers to the thickness of the stainless steel used in the sink. In this system, a higher gauge number = thinner metal.
22 gauge steel is among the thinnest commonly used for kitchen sinks, roughly ~0.7 mm thick.
